Display nodes/annotations as captions or popups when mouse rolls over a selected/highlighted text

I agree that we need some better way to view coding. I realize that different codes may begin and end at different points, but perhaps this could be addressed with two separate affordances: (1) Highlight a passage of text, right-click, and a window shows up with a list of codes that appear
anywhere
in the highlighted text. (2) Drag a new tool (say, a magnifying glass) over a region of text, and see a blow-up of that region, with the coding stripes showing up as underlining.H

A link to any window/toolbar where you can change the coding as you review would also be convenient!

Totally agree. Hope this can be resolved.

VinceQSR: Could we have an update on this feature please? It seems it has been under review for over 2 years and I can find even older posts relating to the same issue. It is frustrating not to easily be able to see where a part of a transcript has been coded. Coding stripes do not address this issue in a user friendly way. Please fix, the user experience is really poor.

Liz Mann: completely agree - this seems like a really useful and basic function that we really need :)

Boy I am on board with this. It is frustrating to review a transcript that's been first-pass-coded and not be able to see clearly which codes have been applied where – either because you have to scroll the stripes horizontally, or because even with All Nodes Coding enabled, there is an upper limit to the number of codes displayed in stripes, so some nodes will not appear at all.
Having the node (and other data) appear on mouse hover would make second-pass and other activities far easier.

Great shout. This would be really helpful.

I have been missing this specific functionality the last weeks after I started to use NVivo, and it is crucial when there are lots of codes near each other. Also, when mouse hoovers over a target (node/annotation etc.), the target highlight should be emphasized e.g. by more visible highlight and/or displaying a border around it. And it should even look good.
