Dark mode for NVivo
in progress
Barry J Gibson
This thread was posted in 2019. It is now 4 years later and windows still has no effective Dark Mode. I might start looking at alternative software and will be in touch with my University about the lack of accessibility for this software.

Barry J Gibson: Here's a really effective workaround that I use:
- In Windows 11, navigate to Settings>Accessibility>Colour Filters
- Make sure'Keyboard shortcut for colour filters' is turned On
- Click to dropdown arrow next to the 'Colour Filters' box
- Make sure 'Colour Filters' is switched On
- Select 'Inverted' from the list of options
Now you can use the keyboard shortcut Windows+Ctrl+C to turn 'Invert colours' On and Off.
- Turn it off and open Nvivo
- Press Windows+Ctrl+C to invert the colours in Nvivo and enjoy a lovely DIY Dark Mode.
Hope this helps!

Tom Chadwick: wonderful thank you so much - I will try this as soon as I can. Honestly I am so grateful for any workaround we can get.

I can confirm this works a treat - thank you so much!

Hi, you can invert windows 10 is by going to settings > ease of access > colour filters - turn on ‘colour filters’ and set it to ‘inverted’

How do you set the dark mode up in the Mac version of NVivo?

I can't for the life of me understand why a dark mode is not available in Win64 version of Nvivo. This doesn't seem to be an OS specific function/capacity.

Nvivo for mac dark mode - please test all menus and features

I have come across multiple menus (e.g. search for node) and features (e.g. word trees) which simply do not display correctly in dark mode for mac.

If anyone else finds this super inconvenient as well, I managed to turn off the dark theme for the NVivo app only by following these steps: https://www.techjunkie.com/exclude-app-dark-mode-macos-mojave/#comment-60699

cybersloth: Thank you for this! I found it a little disturbing as well. Can team make dark mode more user friendly please. Simply like making the fonts more legible.
